It is required to create a workable mobile application prototype to illustrate the usefulness of having an application used by doctors and patients. Another goal of this project is to show that it is possible to implement SMS technology as a new medium in reaching healthcare professionals and the patient base. Users will become more familiar about wireless technologies and the healthcare applications in a potential real world application. With the doctors of today being busier than ever, there is a need to help the doctors reach their patients more efficiently and effectively.

Cell phones usage is increasing year after year and with it more doctors are converting from using pocket PCs and PDAs.

We have seen cell phones incorporate some of the same functionalities as their more advanced counterparts, which provides an opportunity to develop more healthcare related mobile/SMS applications on these mobile devices.

Some possible applications include a mechanism to provide patients with notifications via a text message on a cell phone when to take their medicine.

Patients can reply with a confirmation indicating that they have took their medicine and if necessary, message saying they had some complications after taking the medicine. At the end of the day, a doctor can check his text messages to make sure his/her patients have taken their medications.

A doctor can also check to see if there were any problems reported. If there were any, the doctor can quickly follow-up to get to the root of the complication.

Other examples include sending simple reminders to patients about their upcoming doctor appointments.
Requirements

An end deliverable is to send data from the emulated phone to another emulated phone through the application and vice versa.


A simulation between emulation programs will illustrate the behavior of text messaging from end to end.
